More than 50 Thai artists performed at a charity concert in Bangkok on Saturday to raise funds to help victims of the recent devastating earthquakes in Japan and Ecuador.
Actor Chanon Rikulsurakan, who had earlier spent about a month filming a movie in Kumamoto Prefecture, the area hardest hit by powerful quakes in southwestern Japan this month, organized the “Sing for Friends” event where several hundred spectators turned out.
“I decided to hold the charity concert to help people in Kumamoto as soon as I heard about the disaster,” said Chanon, who also serves as Kumamoto cultural ambassador. “I have so many good memories in Kumamoto and I hope to encourage everyone there to keep on fighting. Thai people are supporting you.”
Proceeds from the concert will be donated to the Kumamoto prefectural government and to a United Nations agency helping the situation in Ecuador.
Chanon plays the male protagonist role in the Thai-Japanese joint production “Hand in the Glove,” a romantic comedy filmed in Kumamoto Prefecture which hit theaters in Thailand in November last year.
