A parade of beauty products have been released for Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day which this year fall only six days apart.
Red rules as a lucky hue according to Chinese belief and is also a colour of love to mark the Valentine sentiment. Besides red, pink symbolises the season of love, with these two shades dominating the cosmetic collections, from bath and body products to make-up and perfumes.
This is particularly evident in eye-catching packaging to attract those shopping for gifts or items to revamp their beauty bags — the latter as a part of self-renewal to welcome the Year of the Monkey.
The Chinese believe in sporting new clothing on New Year’s Day and this may also apply to wearing make-up such as by swiping a brilliant red from a new tube to match the luck-bringing outfit.
Wearing red lips extends to this Sunday, as a part of the primping for a Valentine’s date. A seductive red may be too bold for some women, who can optionally pout a pretty pink to instead present a romantic girlie look.
As always, the month of love brings blooming roses as their sweet scent is bottled into fragrances that are often contemporary twists on classic rose perfumes. A spritz or two on pulse points, then you’re scented for a little romance.
