THERE’S CONSIDERABLE excitement over at Thailand’s |TV Channel 3 following the announcement that it has snapped up the broadcast rights for the 2016 UEFA European Championship, better known as Euro 2016, which is being held in France from June 10 to July 10 and features the continent’s top 24 national teams.

“We continue to move forward with strong content through Channel 3, Channel 13, Channel 28 and Channel 33. Many people consider that Euro 2016 is the greatest football competition in the world, and this year, 24 teams will be playing for the big prize. It’s soccer saturation for football fans, as they will be able to watch all the matches.

“We are the only free TV station in Thailand with the right to broadcast all games from the first round to the final round,” said the TV station’s Borisut Buranasamrit during a recent press conference at Zportlight on the ground floor of Zpell @ Future Park in Rangsit.

“In addition to the football matches, we will broadcast previews provided by UEFA of several matches. Channel 3 will also broadcast a match in prime time, at 9pm, which is the best time for enthusiasts to watch.”

Euro 2016 will open with France versus Romania at Stade de Fran on June 10 at 2pm. France was chosen as the host nation back in 2010 after a bidding process in which they beat Italy and Turkey for the right to host the competition. The matches will be played in 10 stadia in 10 cities: Bordeaux, Lens, Lille, Lyons, Marseilles, Nice, Paris, Saint-Denis, Saint-Etienne, and Toulouse. This marks the third time that France has hosted the tournament, after the inaugural tournament in 1960 and the 1984 finals. The French team has won the European Championship twice: in 1984 and 2000. The winning team earns the right to compete at the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup hosted by Russia.

“We will telecast the opening ceremony live too and have created other content related to the competition such as ‘Euro Magazine’ and ‘Behind the Euro Scene’ which will air every Thursday and Friday from 4 to 4.30pm starting on May 5. Moreover, football fans can watch interesting shots at goal taken from different camera angles as well as other parts of matches in ‘Highlight Euro 2016’ which will be aired on Channel 28 the day after the match,” Borisut added.

“Apart from the football competition, we will also broadcast the 2016 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix from July 6 to 10. This is the first time that Thailand is hosting the tournament and we are sure that fans will want to cheer their favourite teams. The grand prix final takes place on the same day as the final match.”
