Onitsuka Tiger, Japan’s legendary sports-shoe brand, launched its sixth store in Thailand last week at CentralPlaza Lardprao.
To celebrate the opening of the 109sqm shop, a new collection dubbed Suminagashi has been introduced, electrifying sneaker connoisseurs and sport fashionistas alike with the art of paper marbling.
Yet another exemplar of the pride Onitsuka Tiger takes in its Japanese heritage, the collection pays tribute to the artistically meticulous technique originated centuries ago.
The process involves using a split piece of bamboo to gently stir the colours floating on an aqueous solution, to create sensual concentric spirals. Such alluringly unique designs are transferred onto the canvas of two of Onitsuka Tiger’s classic silhouettes, the Mexico 66 and Appian.
The Suminagashi series, which blends modern fashion with ancient craftsmanship, is now available for the first time in Thailand in limited quantity of 200 pairs at the Onitsuka Tiger CentralPlaza Lardprao shop on G floor.
