The Bangkok Bike Thailand Challenge 2016, a 77.2km race, will be held in Cha-am, Phetchaburi, on May 29. Organised for the second year, the event is hosted by the Tourism Authority of Thailand, NCC Exhibition Organiser and Lake View Resort and Golf Club.

Last year’s event.

“The event is in honour of the 61st birthday of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, which was on April 2,” said NCC Exhibition Organiser GM Bussaya Prakobthong.

More than 1,100 people have applied for the contest so far, with 100 applicants being foreigners. The organisers expect to see the total number of cyclists reach at least 1,300.

“This year’s contest will be a bit special,” said TAT’s Phetchaburi Office director Akkrawit Thapasit. “Cyclists will not only enjoy views along salt farms in Bang Tabun to beachfront areas along Hat Chao Samran Beach and Cha-am Beach, but they will also, for the first time, ride their bicycles through a golf course.”

The last 6km stretch before the finish line will be through Lake View Resort and Golf Club in Phetchaburi.

The event has three categories. First is the Road Bike, open to men and women, and is divided into age groups — between 30-39 years, 40-49 years and above the age of 50. The entrance fee for each age category is 1,000 baht.

Youths up to the age of 18 can apply for the Road Bike category. The fee is 500 baht.

The second category is Mountain Bike, which is open to both sexes without an age limitation. The application fee is 1,000 baht. The third category is for teams of five cyclists and the fee is 5,000 baht.

There is also a special category for those who want to enjoy the road cycle race. They can join the “Ride For The Princess” category. The application fee is 500 baht.

Part of the proceeds will be donated to Sirindhorn International Environmental Park in Cha-am, Phetchaburi.

Winners of the three categories will be awarded HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s Cups and cash prizes.
