A stop at amazing unexpected Aesop

The purpose of my recent visit to the newly-opened Aesop counter at Paragon Department Store was to take a look and smell of Post-Poo Drops, a bathroom deodoriser with a floral citrus scent that requires just three drops in the toilet bowl to neutralise nasty smells, but unfortunately, upon my visit, it had not yet managed to stock the product.

Amber glass bottles as the signature packaging.

However, the aluminium-free body deodorant with a fresh and herbaceous aroma, along with other nice-smelling skin and haircare products were available at the counter, which had a long vessel sink for product testing.

Named after the ancient Greek storyteller, the Australian brand was founded in 1987 with a unique retail concept, immediately recognisable by the use of space and minimalist packaging, particularly recyclable amber glass bottles that protect the formulas from sunlight.

Each product comes with a description of the scent, which often influences the decision-making, such as whether to purchase the green Geranium Leaf or citrus Rind Concentrate Body Balm packaged in aluminium tubes.

The evocative aromas are released by essential oils that positively affect the body. As Aesop combines botanical with laboratory-made ingredients, it doesn’t define itself as a natural nor organic brand.

Its research and development focused on finding the most effective way to deliver vitamins and antioxidants to the skin resulting in the signature Parsley Seed range.

The oxidation process unleashes skin-damaging free radicals, which become a bigger threat when the skin is exposed to UV radiation, pollution, or when experiencing minor trauma.

With a floral and herbaceous scent, the Parsley Seed Antioxidant Serum helps counteract the damage while hydrating the skin after massaging half a teaspoon into cleansed and toned skin.

The brand was actually founded by a hair stylist, who started with creating salon products. The haircare range now include six shampoos and four conditioners as well as a pre-shampoo treatment with a herbaceous aroma and a moisturising mask with an exotic, floral, woody aroma.
