The saying, “Falling in love is easy but staying in love is hard” might sound unconvincing for love-struck young people. But they will get to properly understand the popular phrase and learn some valuable tips from many “experienced” couples who will show up at Thanya Park shopping complex tomorrow.
The 3rd ‘Blessing of Love’ competition.
In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, more than 50 loving pairs as senior as our agong (a Chinese term for grandpa) and ama (grandmum) will compete for a plaque and prizes that will signify their love for each other, which is likely to last a lifetime.
Held for the third year to promote longevity in marriage and celebrate the season of love, the 3rd “Blessing of Love” competition is open to couples who have more than 100 years of age combined and have been married for at least 30 years. All senior male competitors, preferably called agongs, must be physically fit enough to compete in the “Agong Song Palang (Mighty Grandpa)” challenge, where they are required to hold and lift their soulmates, now ama, off the floor for at least five seconds.
Likewise, all amas will also have to prove that their eyes, which have had agong in their sights for half their lives, are still sharp enough to enable them to thread five needles within 15 seconds during the “Ama Ta Wiset (Grandma with Best Eye Sight)”.
However, the most interesting part that will certainly bring smiles to all spectators will be the two rounds of a love quiz. First, each couple will have to answer a few personal questions about each other and then they will have to reveal the most memorable moment of their love story, as well as tips that have kept them together. This is where younger lovers will learn what it takes to help them stay in eternal love.
This is the first time the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security have joined hands with Thanya Park to organise this competition after two successful editions in the past two years. The top winning couple will receive a plaque bestowed from the ministry, plus 9,000 baht in cash and accommodation at Springfield@Sea Resort in Hua Hin.
There are also cash prizes for second and third places, the couple who gets the most popular votes, the couple with the most similar outfits as well as a plaque for the couple with the longest marriage.
Applications close today. The contest will take place tomorrow from 1-6pm at the Ozone Square of Thanya Park on Srinakarin Road. Call 02-108-6000.
