AN AFFORDABLE Windows phone featuring a slim aluminium frame and quick and convenient access to Microsoft Office apps, the Microsoft Nokia Lumia 650 is just 6.9mm thick and weighs a mere 122 grammes.
It’s powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 2.1 quad-core processor running at 1.3 GHz and comes with one gigabyte of working memory or RAM and 16 GB of internal storage, which is expandable with a microSD card up to 200 GB.
Although the frame is made of highly polished, diamond-cut and anodised aluminium, the back cover is plastic allowing for replacement of the 2,000 mAh battery.
The smartphone has a 5-inch HD OLED display with 1280×720-pixel resolution, which is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
The Lumia 650 runs on Microsoft Windows 10 Mobile operating system and thanks to built-in protection against security threats is perfect for business use. It is preloaded with business apps, including Office apps, Microsoft Outlook, Skype for Business and OneDrive for business.
The Windows 10 Mobile phone has no-nonsense interface. Instead of using a photo as the phone’s wallpaper, it displays app tiles on the screen for easy access to the apps you use the most. The order of the app tiles are customisable and they appear like the tiles on the startup screen of a Windows 8 or Windows 10 PC.
The Lumia 650 comes with good quality cameras for a mobile device. Its main camera has 8 megapixel resolution and f/2.2 lens with 28mm-focal length. The front-facing camera has 5 MP resolution with wide-angle lens and f/2.2 aperture. The cameras take good quality shots in well-lit environments.
The Lumia 650 has one nano SIM slot and it supports LTE 4G connection. I tested it on TrueMove H’s LTE network and was satisfied with the connection speed. I checked my Hotmail fast and my snapshots were backed up to my Microsoft OneDrive in no time.
I used the Ookla Speedtest.net app to measure the connection speed and found that it achieved a download speed of 35.97 Mbps and upload speed of 9.15 Mbps.
The smartphone has good performance. Its interface of app tiles and touch screen were responsive. Microsoft Office apps like Word ran smoothly during the test. The Lumia 650 also played video clips and music files smoothly.
Microsoft Lumia 650 is available with white and black covers and costs a very reasonable Bt7,190.
