The low-cost carrier Nok Air has launched “Nok Air Ride For Life” to raise funds for the Cardiac Children Foundation of Thailand.

The Nok Air Ride for Life, a charity campaign, will be organised next month to raise funds for the Cardiac Children Foundation of Thailand.

The event is now open for applicants until June 30. The cycling event will take place on July 16 in Khanom, Nakhon Si Thammarat.

This is the first year the airline has tied the biking activity to its charity project, said Nok Air CEO Patee Sarasin.

“This year will mark the 11th year that Nok Air has supported the Cardiac Children Foundation of Thailand. We would like to make it special by enhancing our charity project with the popular sport to suit the new generation’s lifestyle,” he said.

The Cardiac Children Foundation of Thailand was founded in 1981 to provide cardiac surgery and treatment for poor children around Thailand. According to the foundation, about 1% of babies are born with a heart disorder that can be cured. If left unattended, these children will fall victim to premature death or become disabled when they grow up. The estimated cost of an operation for one child is about 20,000 baht.

For the past decade, the airline has donated about 15.3 million baht to the foundation and could help 760 kids.

This year, Nok Air expects to raise more funds and aims to attract about 1,000 cyclists to the charity event. The cycling route is 50km long. It’s open for anyone in good health regardless of age, gender or nationality. Participants must have their own bicycles, which can be mountain bikes or household-style bicycles. They must also wear helmets while cycling. The application fee is 300 baht.

The event kicks off on July 16 with registration in the early morning. Cycling will start around 7am at Khanom Golden Beach Hotel, Na Dan Beach. The hotel will also be the finish point.

The airline also offers the opportunity for those who can’t join the cycling charity to make donations through participating cyclists, who act as fundraisers. The list of cyclists is available at the project’s website. All proceeds will be donated to the foundation.

In addition, participants who can complete the 50km route will be eligible to join Khanom Festival 2016, a concert on the Khanom beach, free of charge. Tickets for the event are 900 baht if purchased by July 10 or 1,200 baht if purchased between July 11-16.

Performing at the concert of Khanom Festival 2016 will be famous musicians including Potato, Klear, Ben Chalatit, Getsunova, 25 Hours and Win Sqweez Animal. Part of the proceeds will be donated to underprivileged schools in Khanom, Nakhon Si Thammarat.
