Why have a kitchen when you have Rocket Coffeebar? We could spend an entire day walking in and out of the S49 branch, or any of the branches in fact. Early breakfast? Brunch? Lunch? Daytime cocktails? Coffee? Smoothies? Dinner? Wine? Anything and everything you could ask for using as much locally sourced and quality ingredients as possible. And it comes wrapped up in this meet and eat culture that just overall adds more colour to life. We’re getting a bit too sentimental now.
So, we didn’t turn down a chance to check out Rocket’s new Nordic menu. Going back to its “roots” it recently introduced dishes inspired by Scandinavian cooking techniques that go way back to the Vikings, i.e. smoking, pickling and brining.
This fact alone didn’t make us salivate to be honest. After all, back then, the Vikings were warmongers, not fishmongers. But nowadays, Nordic restaurants are some of the best in the world. We’re still waiting for that invitation to dine at Noma.
We went for the Sweet potato, pumpkin and rye (B260); a good choice for any health freak with a sweet tooth. The soy-honey glaze enhances the already sweet flavours found in this salad. We also went for the Roast pork smørrbrød (B190) — a Danish-inspired open-faced sandwich complemented by a delicious curried remoulade and crispy shallots. We couldn’t get enough of those crispy shallots. Our personal fave was the Salmon and dill potato waffle (B240) — heart-shaped, savoury and pleasing to the eye and stomach. The Pan seared mackerel (B270) is perfect for gym bunnies — the celery hearts and pear salad make this dish so healthy and the mustard and dill dressing is delicious.
And the coffee game here is still strong. Like one step ahead of everyone else strong. After all, didn’t Rocket introduce the nerdy coffee culture craze to this city? It’s so Stockholm (the centre of coffee craze, in case you didn’t realise) it brought Stockholm to Bangkok. Grab a cup of the Brazil Pedra Redonda to go, or sit and sip those beans like a Nordic coffee queen. g
